"Cellphone use decreases men's fertility"

By Rob Winters - Published on Saturday, 21 May 2011 11:51

"Men who want kids may want to switch off their cellphones or let their partners do all the talking.

Results of a study led by a researcher at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., suggest the electromagnetic waves emitted by cellphones can lead to low sperm quality and decreased fertility in men.

"Our study is an eye-opener that electromagnetic waves may have an effect on fertility," says Dr. Rany Shamloul, a researcher in sexual medicine who led the study. "It's not a done deal, but it's a red flag that more research needs to be done."

"TORONTO — An at-home screening test for colorectal cancer could save up to 15,000 lives in the next decade, but few Canadians are aware of the simple test, says the Canadian Cancer Society.

In its annual report released Wednesday, the cancer society says only 32 per cent of Canadians say they have taken the simple stool test, which is to be conducted every two years.

The society's annual survey of Canadians found that 81 per cent are aware that screening tests exist, but most were not familiar with the at-home test.

The test traces the amount of blood in stool samples, which can be a sign of colorectal cancer, the society said."

"Harper unveils his biggest cabinet ever"

By Rob Winters - Published on Wednesday, 18 May 2011 12:50

"OTTAWA — Stephen Harper unveiled the first cabinet of his majority government today, sticking mainly with familiar faces and promising to make the economy his No. 1 priority.

The prime minister increased the size of the country's board of directors by one member to 39, tying it with the cabinets of Brian Mulroney and Paul Martin as the biggest ever.

That brought immediate cries of hypocrisy from critics who slammed Harper for boosting the size of cabinet while moving forward with an austerity program to cut billions of dollars in government spending.

But Harper dismissed the criticism.

"I think it's important to know when you're talking about austerity, that this government has reduced ministerial budgets significantly," he said."
